Obtain Insurance
Licensed inspectors must also carry a minimum of $300,000 in General Liability and Errors and Omissions insurance coverage. A group policy has been established through FREA, and you may get more information about this coverage by contacting Kelly Carpenter at FREA 800.882.4410, ext. 106; (fax) 858.273.8026; e-mail kelly@frea.com. When speaking to Kelly, you should refer to the group number LA-LHI. This group policy has been established for licensed home inspectors; however, you may choose any insurance carrier you wish as long as you carry the minimum amounts of coverage. NEW INFO: Lexington Insurance is also providing coverage to Louisiana Licensed Home Inspectors. Contact any Lexington Insurance Provider in Louisiana (or elsewhere) for details. CONTACT C. P. Grace and Associates, in Baton Rouge, at 225.926.8783 or 866.688.0164 (toll free) for discounted rates on E & O and Aggregate Liability insurance.
Application Fee ($200.00) LSBHI License Application
This fee is non-refundable, even if you decide not to take the examination. Payable by check or money order only.
Reporting Fees Monthly Reporting Document
For each and every home inspection performed, you must remit to the LSBHI a $7 fee and must complete an Inspection Reporting Form at the end of each month with which to remit all fees due. As this $7 fee is a State mandated fee, this cost can be passed on to the client if you so choose, and you should inform the client of this.
Report Writing Seminars

Standards of Practice Review

Report Writing Seminars
As of January 1, 2007, all license applicants MUST attend the Report Writing Seminar and Standards of Practice review before a Home Inspector License will be issued. This seminar is held on the second Saturday of every month, in various cities around the state. The seminar is free, is worth eight (8) hours of Continuing Education hours, and includes a "working lunch", provided by the Board.

All licensed home inspectors are required to following the Standards of Practice and uphold the Code of Ethics of the LSBHI. A copy of these Standards and Code must be attached to or made a part of every report that a licensed inspector issues.
