In 1999, the Louisiana Legislature passed a law requiring all persons performing home inspections and/or representing themselves to the public as home inspectors to be licensed by the State of Louisiana as of January 1, 2001.
On December 1, 1999, Governor Mike Foster appointed seven home inspectors, one from each Congressional District, to sit as the initial Board Members of the licensing entity known as the Louisiana State Board of Home Inspectors ("LSBHI").
Since their appointment, the Board has developed the Rules of the Board, and a Condensed Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics which govern the LSBHI and all home inspectors within this State. These documents govern the LSBHI and its licensed inspectors, setting forth guidelines and criteria intended to maintain the highest of standards in the home inspection industry, and to ensure that consumers are provided an accurate and thorough home inspection. The LSBHI and its licensees also recognize that their primary objective is to protect the safety, health, property and welfare of the general public, and to promote the vigorous growth of the real estate industry in the State of Louisiana.
The Louisiana Board of Home Inspectors is further charged with evaluating the qualifications of applicants for licensure and granting licenses to those who qualify. It establishes rules and regulations to ensure the integrity and competence of licensees.
The LSBHI currently licenses 232 professional home inspectors in and throughout the State of Louisiana.
